Bike Lanes Detail

Methodology: Each record represents a bike facility segment and is grouped by the first published installation date. Distances are calculated from the published geometry. Mileage is a count of the total lane miles, a two-way bike lane is counted twice. Bike lanes that are replaced with a different class or removed are not included in this dataset - this may cause data for previous years to change over time.

Facility classes follow NYC DOT designations: Class I (protected), Class II (conventional lanes), Class III (shared), and Link segments. Only Class I (Protected) and Greenway segments count towards the Streets Master Plan requirements.

Additional tracking of planned or in-progress protected bike lanes is available at the Transportation Alternatives Protected Bike Lane Tracker. For data on bus lanes see NYC Bus Lane Tracker
