Starting in 2024 NYC DOT published a dataset tracking speed violations where the Notice Of Violation was not issued because the license plate was unreadable as required under § 19-198.1 (Local Law 155 of 2023).
In January 2024 the NYC Comptroller office issued a Audit Report on the New York City Department of Transportation’s Speed Camera Program which recommended 5 changes to improve oversight of rejected speeding incidents, and to address the number of drivers circumventing violations with missing, temporary, and obscured plates.
