NY Law prohibits window tint that reduces light transmission below 70%. Increased window tint poses safety risks from reduced driver reaction times (especially in low light conditions), the inability of pedestrians and cyclists to see the driver, and impaired visibility for law enforcement.
Effective January 1st 2017, an examination of tinted windows is required during yearly motor vehicle inspections.
