NYC Parking Fines are innefective at deterring repeat violations. NY VTL § 237(2) caps fines at $50 except for no stopping/standing fines which have a $100 cap. NYC parking fines include a $15 surcharge. A9031 by Assembly Member Tony Simone would increase parking fines for repeat violators.
Between Oct 2021 and Sept 2023 NYC issued summonses for parking violations. of summonses went to vehicles with 2 or more of the same violation within 24 months.
Methodology: Data for 2021-10-01 through 2023-09-30 from FY 2021, 2022, 2023. Violations with less than 5k occurances are excluded from this report.
