Data reflects vehicles with a NY State registration in the available timeframe (January 2021 through April 18 2024). Vehicles with missing registration class are treated as Passenger. Missing registration class likely indicates dealer inspection prior to registration. Registration classes with very small vehicle counts are omitted. Some registration classes are also normalized for consistency.
The Hybrid indicator includes both Hybrids and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV). Published inspection data does not disambiguate between the two. Vehicles that include a model name ending in "HYBRID" are included.
Vehicle model years are not the same as calendar years; they represent manufacturer model-year assignment in the inspection records.
The NY Metro Area as designated by the DMV Includes the 5 boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island) and Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland and Westchester counties.
Registrations for vehicles with model years before 1980 are ommitted from calculations for this report.
